There are some important Chinese New Year traditions that are cool and fun to me. The first one is the tradition where your parents give you these things called hong bao. Hong bao in english is “red packet”. It is where parents put money in an envelope. Some parents think that if you give kids the packet the kid gets good luck. But it hasn’t been proved by anyone. It’s probably for the better. Second is the Lion Dance. It looks more like a dragon then a lion. Here’s a picture of the lion in a dance of power. The lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries. In which performers copy a lion’s movements in a costume. The third tradItion is not to clean the house on New year’s day or not to buy books. If you clean on the New Year Day you will clean away good luck. This is a problem. If it cleans away good luck, then it would clean away bad luck too. The tradition not to buy books is that the word book sounds like lose in Cantonese. These are some important traditions that are cool and fun to me.
