African Slavery

African slavery was frightening in many ways. Slavery started in 1518 and last over 300 years. Approximately ten million Africans were brought to the New World. Africans were captured by the Spaniards and brought to the New World as slaves to work on the sugar cane plantations. When Europeans arrive at Africa to trade and the Africans had nothing to trade so they traded people. Eventually Africans were forcibly brought like cattle by the Europeans to New France as slaves or prostitutes. The families in Africa were forced to leave each other. They were traveled by ship to the New World and if any of them were sick, they were dumped over overboard to get eaten by sharks. By the time they arrived at the New World they were forced to work even if there sick.  Even children had to work. If anyone refused to work they were whipped or tortured by the plantations owners. The good thing is that slavery ended 130 years ago. Even though slavery was over African Americans still have to fight for equal rights and against racism. These are some of the reason that slavery was so frightening.

George Brown

This is a fictional speech I wrote as George Brown for my History Class.

I am George Brown. In 1851, I entered politics and became a representative for the Toronto area in the legislature, in which I think we should have more, seats then Canada East. As the owner of the Globe newspaper, I used a page of Toronto’s largest newspaper to talk about the issue that happening between Canada East and West. Canada West wants to improve the transportation systems to increase trade between the Canadas. We want canals and railways expanded. However, Canada East has said that this improvement is not necessary. Canada East and West have the same number of seats in the legislature. Every time a major bill comes to debate in the legislature, politicians from each side debate and vote each other into a political deadlock. I think it not fair that Canada East and West have the same number of seats. Canada West should have more seats than Canada East because we have more people than Canada East, therefore we should have more seats in the legislature. I am asking to have the transportation and railways systems expanded because it will be easier to trade for both sides. The improvement I am talking about can help both sides, not just Canada West but Canada East also. I think George-Etienne Cartier is being a little greedy because he doesn’t want to approve the improvement because we have the same amount of seats. Why should Canada West get more seats than us if they don’t have as many people? This is why Canada West should get more seats in the legislature than Canada East.

Terry Fox Runs

The Terry Fox Run and Foundation does a lot of good things. There are over 9,000 Terry Fox Runs each year around the world. 1,139 is the number of cancer research projects funded to the date by the foundation. In 2012, TFF (Terry Fox Foundation) will invest $29. 3 million in cancer research. The Terry Fox Foundation has risen over $600 million for cancer research worldwide. Terry Fox Foundation is one of largest non- governmental funders of cancer research in the country. TFRI (Terry Fox Research Institute) works with partners such as the Canadian institutes of Health Research, Canadian Partnership, Against Cancer and more than 50 cancer research hospitals. That what the Terry Fox Run and Foundation did.

Computer System Evolving

Computer systems evolve over decades. Computers evolve each year because technology advances so the size, performance, usage, software and hardware are utilized for its manufacture and development. The computer used to occupy a big room. Over the years, computers have grown smaller, so that you can bring it to work or take it to a friend’s house to play, such as laptops. The first computer was made in 1822 and it was big so you couldn’t carry it around. Also there were no websites, cams, mute and hardly any games to download. Since the computer is evolving each year, people added gears on the computers such as video cameras, mute and websites like youtube, edmodo facebook, and game sites. The actual changes that occurred to the computer were video cameras, mute, websites, usage and social websites so people could learn and communicate more. These are the ways in which the computer changed over the decades.
