Nelson Mandela’s Biography

Early Life Of Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was born on the 18th of July, 1918.  He was born into royalty but as a result of his father not going to court when the British asked him to, they were stripped of their land, livestock, and money.  Now homeless, baby Nelson was brought to Qunu, a small village.  Then his father, Chief Henry, sent him to school, something no one else in his family done. When Chief Henry died, Nelson’s mother gathered all of Nelson’s  belongings and brought him to Chief Jongintaba who would take care of Mandela as his guardian and mentor. After all of Nelson’s schooling, Chief Jongintaba arranged a marriage but Nelson did not want that kind of life so he ran away to a place called Johannesburg. There Nelson got a job in the mines but Chief Jongintaba made sure that Nelson was fired because he wanted Nelson to live in the palace. eventually Nelson persuaded him to let him stay in Johannesburg.  Looking for a job Nelson heard about a man named Walter Sisulu who could help him find a job.  Walter helped Nelson find a job in a lawyer’s office. In 1944 Nelson created the ANC Youth League which was a smaller branch of the bigger anti racist ANC a political party in South Africa.  After World War II Nelson thought that America would move into South Africa to stop the racism but they did not.  Soon the British government was voted out of office and an even more antiblack government took it’s place. A few years later Nelson  would go to prison on Robben Island.
